The cost comparison

The Finance function at a fraction of the cost.

Growth clients save about annually versus hiring in-house.

Growth
Bookkeeper + staff accountant
Bookkeeper$71,800
Staff accountant$119,200
In-house, per year$191,000
Fortuna Growth*$48,000
ANNUAL SAVING$143,000

That is less than half the cost of a staff accountant alone, before the bookkeeper.

*Based on 500 transactions per month

Need a controller and analysts too? Ask about Enterprise, scoped to your team.

In-house costs use U.S. median wages (Bureau of Labor Statistics, May 2024) plus about 46% for payroll taxes and benefits. Fortuna is not affiliated with BLS. Savings are illustrative estimates, not a quote; your fee depends on your transaction count.

Pricing

Pricing that scales with your business.

A monthly base fee plus a per-transaction rate. You pay for the complexity you bring, not for headcount.

Why it costs less and works better

AI for the legwork. Accountants for the final word.

A traditional bookkeeper spends most of their hours on repetitive work. We hand that work to AI, so every hour you pay a person for goes to review, decisions, and advice.

01
Agents do the work
Categorize, match, reconcile, remind, and draft workpapers, continuously.
02
Exceptions are flagged
Anything unusual, unmatched, or high-risk goes to a person instead of being guessed at.
03
An accountant reviews
Your dedicated accountant, a CMA, resolves every flagged item.
04
A controller signs off
The close is approved and in your inbox by the 5th, with analysis.
Lower cost
You pay for outcomes, not headcount.
Agents do the heavy lifting. From transaction capture to financial statements, agents do the work that would otherwise take salaried hours.
One reviewer covers far more ground. Accountants check exceptions instead of keying transactions, so a small senior team can oversee the whole function.
No overhead to carry. No recruiting, benefits, turnover, or extra software to manage.
Better quality
Fewer errors, caught sooner.
Continuous, not monthly. Transactions are reconciled as they arrive, so problems surface the day they happen rather than at close.
Consistent by design. The same rules apply to every transaction, every time, with no fatigue or backlog. Every agent action is logged.
Faster, fuller reporting. Statements and forecasts arrive sooner, and senior expertise goes to the decisions that need it.

What you receive

This is what lands in your inbox each month.

A reviewed close package, not a login to another dashboard. Sample figures shown.

Profit and lossSeptember 2026
Revenue$412,600
Cost of goods sold$247,600
Gross profit$165,000
Operating expenses$128,900
Net income$36,100
Controller analysis: Gross margin held at 40%. Operating expenses ran $9,400 over budget, almost all of it overtime, so it may be time to decide between a new hire and continued overtime.
13-week cash forecastStarting balance: $184,300
Week 1Week 13
Flagged: Week 8 dips to $135,000, below your $150,000 minimum, when the quarterly insurance premium and two large supplier payments land together. We recommend moving $30,000 of supplier payments to week 9.

Questions

What owners ask before they sign.

How much will I actually save, and when?
It depends on what you spend on finance today. A typical Growth client, with a bookkeeper's and a staff accountant's worth of work, pays about $48,000 a year with us instead of about $191,000 to do it in-house. Your written estimate uses your own numbers. Either way, you're on your new bill within 30 days of your first call.
What happens when the AI gets something wrong?
It gets caught before it reaches your books, and long before any money moves. The AI never invents a number: every amount comes from your source documents, and an entry that doesn't tie out to the document stops. Anything uncertain, such as a vendor we haven't seen before, an unclear account, a possible duplicate or a changed payment instruction, is held for an accountant instead of being recorded. No payment goes out unless a person releases it. Every correction is logged and becomes a rule for next time, so the same mistake isn't repeated. And a Certified Management Accountant reviews every close before your statements go out.
How is my data secured?
Your data is partitioned from every other client's: each record is tied to your company, access is scoped per client, and your QuickBooks connection is only ever used for your company. It is stored in the United States on Amazon Web Services, encrypted at rest, in a database that isn't reachable from the internet. Our team signs in with multi-factor authentication, and every action is recorded under the person who took it. The AI models we use run under commercial terms that prohibit the provider from training on your data. We never sell or share it. See our privacy policy for details.
What happens to my current bookkeeper?
That's your call, and we'll work with whatever you decide. Fortuna covers the bookkeeping and finance work your team does today, so many owners move a valued bookkeeper into work that grows the business, such as operations, purchasing or customer service. If you use an outside firm, we handle the handoff and get your records transferred.
What does switching involve?
Five steps, and most of the work is ours:
  1. We connect Fortuna to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. You choose who on your team answers our questions when something is flagged for review or doesn't add up.
  3. They get a link to a review page where they clear exceptions and add any missing context we need to process an invoice or draft a document. Fortuna remembers every answer, so it doesn't ask twice.
  4. During setup, we run a full test of your monthly bookkeeping on Fortuna, separate from your live books, to make sure our agents have the context they need to analyze your documents correctly.
  5. After that, your new finance department is ready for action.
What is the contract term?
Growth starts with a three-month initial term, which covers setup and onboarding, then continues month to month with 30 days' notice. Basics is month to month from the start, and Enterprise terms are set with you. Your QuickBooks company stays in your name the whole time, so you leave with your complete books. We don't keep former clients' data, except where state or federal law requires it.
